Women's Christian College not only excels in academics but also has a blend of talented young entrepreneurs who have launched their own business ventures while studying here. With systematic strategies, they advertise their products and services on social media to sell them, fulfilling the expectations of their customers. Being entrepreneurs, they have also managed to maintain a balance between their business and education, in pursuit of doing what they love most.
Although passion is one of the driving elements for these young entrepreneurs to step out into the world to do what they love, there are always hardships and hurdles awaiting them. “Determination, Discipline, and Smartwork are the three keys to success,” says Priscilla (III BSc Computer Science), who runs a business named “Folkcilla”, where she sells various works of art including portraits. Grace Ann Shivani (III BA English) started her own business venture called “Grace Artistry”. She provides a service, giving makeovers to her customers for their special occasions. “I feel I am the most amazing artist because I can make someone happy,” says Grace.
Being an entrepreneur while in college is no child’s play. The pressure of balancing extension activities, sports, internal assessments, and end-semester examinations, is extremely challenging for these students. ’’There were days when I had to do my academic work in the afternoon, and stay up all through the night curating orders,” says Farhath (III BSc Nutrition), who started her own baking business called “Little Treats”. It is necessary for budding entrepreneurs to hone their skills of time management, strategy, and consistency in order to attain their goals.
Every business owes its success to someone. One of the entrepreneurs, Saba Yasra, (III BCom Accounting and Finance), who started her business venture called “Baking reasons why” says “she owes her success to her parents, friends, and relatives who never gave up on her.’’
With success comes failure. For an entrepreneur, there is always a hidden lesson behind every failure. “I have experienced many failures, but I took them as an opportunity to learn instead. When I failed, I pushed to do better the next time which helped improve myself’’, says Safrin (III BSc Nutrition). Her business “Frozenpeaks” sells baked sweets and cakes in Chennai.
Sarah Thomas (III BBA), started her business “CareersFnO” after finding out through polls and surveys that a majority of people were not satisfied with their choice of career. She decided to start “CareersFnO” to help students and young adults select a career path best suited for them, by providing information and resources on the same.
Students of WCC are encouraged to pursue their higher education and follow what they are most passionate about, thereby breaking gender stereotypes. The budding entrepreneurs of WCC collectively enlighten other students with their advice, “Believe in yourself and never stop trying.’’
