Senators lead optimistically during lockdown

The Senate of Women’s Christian College has managed to show their leadership quality with determination through numerous online events during the time of this severe pandemic.

The orientation programme for freshers conducted on 27th August 2020 was a success, with the first years thoroughly enjoying the virtual college tour presented by the Senate. The programme received many positive responses and comments from both the freshers and the management. The Senators organised a talk for the freshers by Ms Geethanjali Rajan, an alumna of the college, to help the students become more aware of the functioning of the system and to nurture the spirit of learning in them.

The student body has also helped in organizing various webinars on mental health to ensure the students’ wellbeing. Now, their aim is to provide a virtual platform for the students to unlock their talents.

The Senators helped students break the monotony of online classes by conducting 'Seniors' Dramuda' on 24th October through Zoom followed by Battlefest, an Interdepartmental cultural event on 10th and 11th of November. It was a huge success and they are going down the history as the first batch to conduct this event online. The Chapel Committee resumed its weekly ‘Bible Study’ sessions from 15th October 2020, every Thursday from 6 pm to 7 pm on Zoom.

“I personally feel incomplete and unproductive as the online platform has reduced my duties and responsibilities. Lack of interaction with the student community in person has also affected me, as it used to give me a sense of responsibility and commitment,” said the President of the student body, “Nevertheless, this online Senate life taught me how to be creative in our work and helped us to stay together,” she concluded. This shows how the lockdown is a challenge to hone creative skills by being optimistic.
