The Home Science Department of Women’s Christian College celebrated ‘Nutrition Week’ in the first week of September 2020. This initiative was implemented to raise awareness about the importance of nutrition especially during the pandemic among faculty and students of WCC. “Battle against COVID-19” was the focus of this year’s Nutrition Week, and it concentrated on creating awareness and boosting one's immunity.

“Face to face contact was missing but the programme went off well. We expected glitches but everything fell in place,” commented Dr Sona, Assistant Professor in the Department of Home Science and one of the coordinators of the event. Various events like cooking competitions, dance and drama, quiz and fitness programmes were conducted. The participation for the quiz competition alone exceeded 600 students. M.Sc. students were the backbone of this event. They used innovative ideas to send messages about this programme through Whatsapp. Finally, the enthusiastic participation of students in this virtual setting was the driving force of the entire initiative.

Though everyone got to participate from the comfort of their homes, the time and effort that went into organising it was much more than a similar programme conducted on campus. "Physical stress was ruled out but a lot of effort had to be put in to accommodate such a big event using the online mode," said Dr Shajini Judith, Assistant Professor in the Home Science Department. “The event was a grand success despite all these limitations,” she added.
