Online events and celebrations have taken place across the globe this year, thanks to lockdown. Women's Christian College has been actively organising virtual events like webinars right from the start of this lockdown. WCC’s first online celebration "BATTLEFEST 2020" took place recently, with the theme, "UNLOCKED - Unleashing your lockdown talents". This was an inter-college competitive platform for students to showcase their talents.
Although intense planning went into bringing about this event, there were other challenges such as the online portal not being secure and the fear that anyone might access and misuse it. A blueprint of rules and regulations was sketched out for the online portal and many trials took place a few days before the programme to see if everything went off smoothly and so on. Finally the much awaited annual event "BATTLEFEST 2020" took place on 10 and 11 November, with the college student community including the excited freshers coming together on a virtual platform.
The fest started with an address by the Student Chairperson, followed by the Principal’s address. The first day had four events. These events were judged beforehand and the best 10 entries from each selected by the judges were projected. On the second day, a number of events took place, including dance, potpourri, drawing, meme creation, captions, music, and photography. These events took place through Zoom and were also telecast live on YouTube. Following the events was the Valedictory ceremony, where the Vice President of the Student Senate gave the concluding remarks.
Though 'BATTLEFEST 2020' faced a few technical problems, everything went off well. The freshers particularly enjoyed being a part of this event, as this was their first experience of BATTLEFEST. Also, participants who normally lacked the courage to perform on a real stage, took this as an opportunity to showcase their talents. Not only that, it was a welcome break from the hectic routine of online classes and this resulted in active participation despite being an online event. Even though everyone was skeptical about this fest in the beginning, it was a grand success.
